Witney HC Chair's Welcome to the 21/22 Season

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

The last 18 months have been testing for all of us but there now appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. A huge thank you to the committee and captains for their hard work over the last year, the club is in a great position moving forwards and the improvements we have been trying to implement should start coming to fruition.

The inter-club friendlies and summer league were a resounding success, we increased our team entries and had more members playing summer hockey than ever before.

I am immensely proud that as a club we managed to raise £2,000 towards new dugouts. The benefits will be felt by everyone and we hope the dugouts and other matchday improvements at Wood Green will be ready for September.

Membership

We are pleased to announce that all club membership fees and match fees will remain unchanged for another year and that all membership is now live for the upcoming season. Seniors are reminded that if you pay on or before 1st October, you will receive a reduced rate of £120 and Junior membership fees for the season are fixed at £80.

Seniors

The ending of COVID restrictions has timed perfectly with the start of the hockey season and I am delighted to be welcoming everyone back for training in August this year. Pre-season training for the Men and Ladies will be at the earlier time of 19:30 - 20:00, and will be mixed ability until teams are selected in September.

Pre-Season Training

Men: Mondays, 9th - 23rd August, 19:00 - 20:30

Ladies: Wednesdays, 11th August - 1st September, 19:00 - 20:30

1XI Ladies & Men (invite only): Tuesdays, 3rd - 31st August, 19:00 - 20:30

Season Training

From week commencing 6th September training will revert back to normal timings, but there has been a slight change to the normal Ladies' training schedule. You can find more details by clicking here, and this will be communicated during pre-season too.

Juniors

We are super excited to be welcoming back our Juniors for a full season from September. Junior training starts the week commencing Monday 6th September. We have a number of improvements in the pipeline which should help our junior section to continue to grow and develop. The Ladies 1st team will be taking on some mentoring, coaching and team management for junior teams on top of our existing coaching framework. We have entered junior teams into the south-central league system and will be sending our younger juniors to the tournaments across Oxfordshire throughout the year.

Training remains on the same schedule as previous years, to see an age group breakdown please click here.

Volunteers Needed

We are hoping to launch a test junior committee that will oversee the management of our junior section. The aim of the committee is to help us build a structure fit for future growth whilst continuing to improve all aspects of our junior hockey. Any parents or existing senior members interested in helping out or looking for more information, please contact Lucy Regan using this contact form.

Sponsorship & Advertising

We have an incredible opportunity to raise funds for the club by selling advertising/sponsorship space at the pitch. We are selling 6ft by 2ft sponsorship boards for £400 for the 2021/22 season. If you own a business, have a family member who does, or know someone who may be interested in purchasing a board to advertise whilst supporting the club, please find out more here.

Fixtures

There has been a change to the league system and both Men's and Ladies' teams are now part of the newly created South Central region. You can find all fixtures for the 2021/22 season by clicking here.

New Members

The club is always looking for new members in both the Senior and Junior sections. Please do invite anyone with children who would like to take up hockey or is themselves interested in joining the club. Prospective members can get in touch by social media or the contact form on our website.

I hope everyone is as excited as I am for the new season, it will be fantastic to see everyone back at Wood Green over the coming months. We have a big opportunity to continue to grow and develop our club and I have no doubt next year will be another successful season.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon.
