Chair's Welcome to the 22/23 Season

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

What a season 2021/22 was! All Ladies' teams were promoted with our 1XI Ladies now in the second highest league in England and Wales, our Men's teams finished top half of their respective leagues, 432 juniors played in matches for Witney last season, and we entered more senior teams to summer league than ever before.

Having such a strong year brings pressure for the upcoming season but we do have more exciting plans. We are adding a 5th Ladies team, exploring the possibility of a men’s development team and adding a masters team. We plan to offer more opportunities for our juniors across the board and are looking for parents or senior members to take on Junior Committee roles. Specifically, we are looking for a Junior Fixtures Secretary and Junior Membership Secretary. Both these roles will allow us to grow and expand the opportunities we can give to our juniors.

We are pleased to announce that all club membership forms are now live. Existing senior members, please note the deadline for early bird discount has changed to 1st September 2022 to coincide with friendlies.

We are expecting strong demand for Junior places again this year so please make sure you have filled out the membership form ahead of the first junior training session in September.

Following the success of preseason last year, we have decided to make the arrangement permanent and will start preseason in August every year. This is five more sessions on an annual basis for all senior members.

Preseason Club Training: Starts Week Commencing 1st August 2022

Men's Club Training: Mondays 20:00 - 21:30

Ladies' Club Training*: Wednesday 20:00 - 21:30

*Please note from the week commencing 8th August, the Ladies section will be training in loose squads to allow for preparation for the season, training nights will be:

  • L2/L3 on Wednesdays 20:00 - 21:30

  • L4/L5 on Thursdays 18:30 - 20:00

We are super excited to be welcoming back our Juniors for a full season from September. Junior training starts the week commencing Monday 5th September.

After listening to feedback from parents, we have moved U14 Boy's training to 18:00-19:00 on Wednesdays. This should mean more boys are able to attend and parents do not have to worry about getting them up for school after a 21:30 finish on a Monday night.

Training Changes

All training days and times can be found on our website. Whilst most teams remain the same, the following teams' slots have changed from the previous season so please be aware. These changes have been made following feedback and will continue to be monitored to ensure we're training efficiently and effectively for all.

  • U14 Boys: Wednesdays 18:00 - 19:00

  • Ladies 3s: Wednesdays 20:00 - 21:30

  • Ladies 4s: Thursdays 18:30 - 20:00

  • Ladies 5s: Thursdays 18:30 - 20:00

Volunteers Needed

Thank you to all parents that helped out on Sundays last year, this allows us to enter more teams and give our juniors more games to play. We are looking to expand our offering further and need a couple of junior committee volunteers. Any parents or existing senior members interested in helping out or looking for more information, please contact Junior Coordinator Lucy Regan using the contact form on this page.

Sponsorship & Advertising

We have an incredible opportunity to raise funds for the club by selling advertising/sponsorship space at the pitch. We are selling 6ft by 2ft sponsorship boards for £400 for the 2022/23 season. If you own a business, have a family member who does, or know someone who may be interested in purchasing a board to advertise whilst supporting the club, please find out more here.

Fixtures will be available in our annual programme which will go on sale in September. Both senior and junior fixtures have not yet been produced by the leagues but will be added to the fixtures spreadsheet on our website once they're available.

New Members

The club is always looking for new members in both the Senior and Junior sections. Please do invite anyone who would like to take up hockey or is interested in joining the club. Prospective members can get in touch by social media or the contact form on our website.

I hope everyone is as excited as I am for the new season, it will be fantastic to see everyone back at Wood Green over the coming months. We have a big opportunity to continue to grow and develop our club and I have no doubt next year will be another successful season.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon.
